A quiet, secluded beach (the Reed) with pebbles and clear waters, it is surrounded by high cliffs. On the beach is a huge cave, most needful to the visitor, as there are no trees to lend one their shade.
The unusual name (the Harbour of Theodoris) is said to come from the person who once owned the land here. Two neighbouring bays hold the two beaches – sand, pebbles and shallow clear waters – ideal for resting and recovering on.
No organization exists here. The eastern of the bays is favoured by nudists.
The beautiful beach (Pebbles) is set at the mouth of the rugged gorge of Asprolithos. The deserted beach, surrounded by tall cliffs, is of the sort that those seekers of solitude, and the nudists, make a bee-line for. It has small pebbles, and blue-green very clear waters.
Continuing east, the next beach is that of Goudaras within its enclosed bay of the same name.
This beach before the seaside settlement and beside a promontory (all of the same name) is set amidst greenhouses. It has an overview of the Libyan sea and the islet of Koufonisi dead opposite it.
The area takes its name from a shrub Agoudouros (one of the St. John’s worts) which abounds hereabouts: the locals used it both as a brush to sweep clean their threshing floors and as a supporting layer on which to set their grapes and figs to dry.
In fact Goudouras actually consists of two adjoining villages – Goudouras and Asprolithos.
The huge beach here has small pebbles, and very clear crystalline waters. But primitively organized, it does yet have umbrellas, sunbeds and showers. Nearby are some tavernas (the fresh fish must be sampled!) and rooms to rent for a stay.
If you come here, it is worth visiting the Church of the Ascension (Analipsi), built of stone.
Also a footpath from Goudouras leads to the Gorge of the Red Butterflies – a most impressive canyon and a total must to visit!
