The Loggia is considered as one of the most remarkable buildings of the Venetian period in Crete. It used to be a kind of Club, where the wealthy and noblemen gathered.
The building was initially constructed after 1541, possibly according to Palladian-style designs by Michele Sanmicheli. It was changed into the form it has today after 1628, by Francesco Morosini. In the Turkish period the Loggia was used as an armoury and suffered extensive damage.
The final restoration of the monument began in 1961 and was completed somewhere about 1979. Nowadays it houses the Town Hall.
