The Almiros Beach is just few minutes from the center of Aghios Nickolaos (2 km. approx.) and 12 km from Elounda.
With its backdrop of Mount Thrypti, this sandy beach lies at the mouth of the Almyros river which flows through high reed-beds by a wetland where rare birds live. Because of the river’s presence, the sea waters are very cold in places, but always blue, clear and shallow.
The beach is well-developed – umbrellas, sunbeds, showers all exist. The shallow waters, and a lifeguard, make this a safe place for small children, enhanced by the playground there.
If you chose to spend your holidays here, you can stay at one of the rent-rooms, apartments or hotels that ply their trade close to the beach, or but a little way off in Aghios Nikolaos. Close by the beach are some canteens and a taverna.
Heading south, you will come to the village of Istron.
