If you want to discover the most beautiful landscapes along with authentic culture experiences. If you see traveling as a way to conquer new tastes and expand your knowledge of local gastronomy. If you are interested in exploring the unique natural environment and learn about the myths, the stories and the legends that surround it. If you are fascinated by the idea of being privy to the small cultural secrets of local communities. Then discover Enagron Ecotourism Village!

Enagron is built at an altitude of approximately 500 meters and is found in the center of the highest and holiest mountain of Crete, Mount Ida. Its aim is to combine local hospitality with traditional Cretan cuisine and link the exploration of the island’s natural environment to the experience of local culture by means of accommodation, wellness, activities, and gastronomy.

We invite you to follow us in a part of Crete which is less known but more impressive, less cosmopolitan but more authentic, less developed but unique. We combine our efforts to initiate you into a culture with deep roots in history and in a world where respect for the guest is an ultimate value. We invite you to interact with the local society and discover unique landscapes, primitive customs and distinctive patterns of social conduct.

Enagron covers an area of 60,000m² of wild vegetation, vineyards, olive groves, vegetable and botanical gardens in which we have created single-storey and double-storey (maisonettes) buildings, which form neighborhoods and resemble a traditional village. All apartments have a veranda with a view towards the mountains the gardens or the gorge of the area.

Both the design and construction of the accommodation facilities are perfectly adapted to the natural environment thanks to the traditional architectural style and the natural materials that were used. They offer all amenities that are required by modern lifestyle without interfering with the landscape. It is a great responsibility to create along with nature and share the joy and delight it has to offer. We address all those people who do not just want to be tourists, but would like to become part of our team; the people who want to get to know the authentic way of life in this primeval and historic area; the people who want to be introduced to arts and techniques by the villagers, who practice them, and be familiarized with a civilization thousands of years old. All these can take place through participation in activities with Enagron team, which consists of local people.

Accessibility

For the Rural Greece accessibility is fundamental to enhancing an inclusive tourism experience. Following the principles of inclusion and equality, the epaithros Rural Tourism Network and its member businesses are constantly working to enhance the tourism services provided, ensuring that all visitors have the opportunity to experience the authentic beauty of the Greek countryside.

Sustainability

Sustainability in tourism refers to a way of developing tourism that respects and protects the environment while strengthening the local economy and preserving cultural traditions. The aim of sustainable tourism is to provide unique and authentic experiences for visitors without harming the natural and social environment, while ensuring that local communities benefit from tourism activity.

This type of tourism is based on three pillars:

  1. Environmental sustainability: preserving the natural landscape and ecosystems, with actions to reduce pollution, energy consumption and waste.
  2. Economic sustainability: supporting local economies, strengthening small businesses and creating jobs, while respecting the region's natural resources.
  3. Social sustainability: respecting local culture and traditions, strengthening social cohesion and ensuring that tourism activities benefit the quality of life of local people.

With sustainable tourism, visitors can have authentic experiences, knowing that the impact of tourism on the region is positive and lasting for future generations.

Locality

For Rural Greece, localism is one of the most important factors for the development of sustainable tourism, as it promotes a strong link between the tourism product and the local society, economy and culture. Through localism, visitors get the opportunity to explore authentic elements of the destination, such as local products, traditions and culture. This not only boosts the local economy, but also helps to sustain and strengthen local businesses, creating new jobs and supporting the development of local communities.

Furthermore, localism contributes to the sustainability of the tourism sector, as it reduces the use of resources from other regions and encourages the use of local goods and services, reducing the ecological footprint of tourism activities. Thus, integrating localism into tourism practices enhances sustainability awareness, both among visitors and local businesses, creating a more responsible and sustainable tourism destination.
